Maggie Groat: Studies For Possible Futures: The Moon and Everything Else

maggie_bad-day-400 Studies for possible futures: The Moon and everything else
Maggie Groat

“The compilation of work included in my MFA thesis exhibition Studies for Possible Futures: the Moon and Everything Else derives from my role as amateur cosmographer. The objects and images that I have included in this exhibition are the souvenirs of my cosmological inquiries, accidents, and wonderings. This work has the potential for addition, fluctuation, continuation or revision - gardens that grow, piles that get larger, impossible acts that are performed with incredible hopefulness. This collection is the residue of my research, a study for future actions.”

Maggie Groat is an artist that works primarily in performative gestures that are documented through photographs, objects, text, drawings and oral accounts. The remnants of these gestures resist non-linear methods of presentation, in an attempt to tell a story that, perhaps, has no ending. Maggie Groat received her BFA from York Univeristy in 2007 and is currently a Masters of Fine Arts candidate at the Univeristy of Guelph.

Opening Reception: Thursday August 5, 7pm - 11pm

‘Interview’ stopped by the opening of the Tim Barber show we have up right now:

“It’s not often that a girl with lavender hair transforms into a ghost before your eyes. Julia Burlinghan does just that in Tim Barber’s latest solo show, Tout Va Bien. Selections from two series of snapshot-style photographs, “Mystic Heather” and “Virgin Snow,” it is currently on view at 107 Shaw Gallery in Toronto”
