So Depressed. Not Impressed.
Featuring new photo works by Jeremy Jansen
and Frances Allen.
So Depressed. Not Impressed. explores the social circles we inhabit and our motivations to document them. Contrasting light and shadow, Jeremy Jansen’s work is an exercise in duality. Whether capturing the frenetic energy of a punk show, or the quiet solitude of a moment stolen on tour, Jeremy’s work is largely informed by the desire to present his subject matter in a painterly and introspective manner. Playing with scale, the use of foreign materials and unique printing processes gives this body of work a fascinating new perspective. Conversely, in a way that could be described as ‘cut from the same cloth’, Frances Allen’s work captures with youthful exuberance the excitement and vitality of a thriving social scene. When viewed in color, Fran’s images are both humorous and energetic. When put into the context of of multiple black and white reproductions, their tone harkens back to a D.I.Y. aesthetic of days past.
